Welcome to My New Site!

By: 👩‍🦳 Linda · Published: 🖨 September 22, 2010 · Updated: 💻September 16, 2013 · 🗨 49 Comments

Yes, I’ve finally made the move to WordPress! I have been thinking about moving for sometime but was apprehensive because of the work involved. Although I have an IT background, the task was still daunting. I wanted the move to be quick and efficient and so I decided to get some help. Thus, this new home for Roti n Rice after nine months of blogging. She has her own domain now. There are a few people I would like to thank for this effort.

First and foremost is Ro-Ri San for his tireless and unending support for this blog. He has spent many hours correcting and proof reading my writing, taste testing my recipes, and promoting this blog to family, friends, and colleagues. Many of the lovely tableware, kitchen ware, and gadgets you see on the site have been carefully chosen from his travels and presented to me as gifts. The brand new logo was also designed by him and I love it! Roti n Rice will not be here without his most cherished support.

My appreciation also goes to Beth of  EZSiteMove for a fast and efficient transfer of the site. She made it appear so easy. The lovely theme you see on the site is called “Amazing Grace” and this was designed by Vladimir Prelovac. Many thanks for his ultimate guide to this theme that enabled me to do the customization required. It took Beth and me three days to complete the move, which is pretty quick by any standard. She worked on transferring the widgets and data while I dived into the HTML codes to customize the theme. The transfer of comments from IntenseDebate proved to be quite a challenge. Somehow comments from my guest posts will not be transferred and this will continue to be work-in-progress. Perhaps someone out there can help and I would love to hear from you. There is still the work of updating all links in the posts and other minor customizations. A printable recipe also goes into the WIP bucket. However, for most parts, the new site is up and running.

You would probably have noticed that you have been redirected to this site even though you are linked to the old site. Please update your links (and love) to this new site. While you are doing that, do subscribe to the feed or join me on Google Friend Connect, Facebook, or Twitter. Thank you for visiting and reading.

No recipe today, but I would like to revisit some of my previous posts with you.

Lemon Poppy Seed Braid

Uramaki (Inside-out Roll)

Claypot Chicken Rice

Tofu Fish Balls

Vegetable Moussaka

Enjoy…..and have a wonderful day! 🙂

Looks great, Biren! Congrats! Did you move to a free WordPress host, or are you self-hosting? That’s the next step for me as well, but paying monthly for a host-site has me holding off for a little while…

Thanks Victoria! I am self-hosting. It is a big move but I decided that I should do it once and for all. Still learning the ropes here as I have gotten so used to Blogger 😉

Good luck! I will definitely let you know when I finally decide to self-host. Maybe you can give me some tips, or names of people who helped you made the move!! I heard it wasn’t too difficult, but who knows, haha.

    Hey Biren!

I really love your new site and look! For someone as OCD as me and needs everything grouped, I’d have to say your new site is very organized and easy to follow. Best of luck with getting the final pieces together.

Songrats on the move. I’m glad it didn’t take so long. I so love WordPress compared to the limited things you can do on Blogger.

One thing I’m dealing with now, though is the effects of being on a shared server compared to Blogspot/Google. Sometimes (this week in particular) the server response time is slow or even times out. It makes me consider getting a Virtual Private Server hosting plan.

Thanks Nate! I am relieved that everything has been moved over. Right now I am learning the ropes on posting and stuff. I have to start cooking too 😉

Yes, I noticed that when I visited. Virtual Private Server hosting is definitely the way to go.
