After weeks of anticipation and preparation, the Lunar New Year is finally here! It has been hectic around here with a holiday every month starting with Thanksgiving in November, Christmas in December, and now Lunar New Year 2020. That said, it has been fun decorating this new home and celebrating each of the holidays.

It seems like I have been planning menus and cooking non-stop. After all, I am a food blogger and blogging about food is what I do. I certainly got my money’s worth from the investment I made when I built this new kitchen. I am glad to report that my gas stove and wok stood up to the test. My extra pantry space downstairs with an additional refrigerator also came in handy.

The Reunion Dinner

For the eve of Lunar New Year 2020, I planned to cook six dishes and one soup but at the last minute I decided not to cook the last dish because there was more than enough food for everyone. The star of the show was of course the Yusheng with Pan Seared Ahi Tuna which I will share soon. The rest of the dishes are…
1. Everyone’s favorite Roast Pork Belly (Siew Yoke).
2. Fragrant crispy skin Five-Spice Roast Chicken.
3. Nyonya favorite and must-have Jiu Hu Char (Stir Fry Jicama with Cuttlefish.
4. Another family favorite, Lotus Root and Peanut Soup.
5. Teochew Steamed Silver Pomfret which turned out beautifully.

Lunar New Year Breakfast

We also had our traditional family breakfast on the morning of the Lunar New Year. For this, please hop over to Malaysian Chinese Kitchen for the details.

Amidst all the cooking, we also took time to set up our Chinese New Year Lego sets which we managed to order online. These sets are very popular and their supply very limited due to extreme popularity. If you are interested, the links are below but do hurry because very few sets remain. They are super cute and too hard to pass up.
