Our Kitchen Tour featuring a walkthrough of the contemporary layout, appliances, storage, and cabinets finished in fashionable Alabaster.
The kitchen is touted as the heart of a home, and this is certainly true in ours. We spend more time sitting around the counter for short meals and snacks than at the dining table. My main PC is located just across aisle from my island. The kitchen pantry is the focal point of forays looking for quick bites. In short, this beautiful serene-looking place is often the hive of activity.
When we were shopping for a color for the cabinets, we wanted a fresh new look that was different from our previous traditional honey oak kitchen. It is no surprise that we finally chose Alabaster, one of Sherwin William’s “Color of The Year” picks. It symbolizes new beginning and has a warm hopeful glow to it. To offer some contrast, we finished the island in a mocha stain to break some of that white expanse.
Thermador Professional Rangetop
The 36 inch gas rangetop dominates the center of the island. Thermador’s Professional Rangetop provides enough oomph to cook anything you wish. The back row packs 15,000 BTU for each burner. The front row provides even more firepower with 18,000 BTU per burner. The proprietary star-shaped burners are said to help provide intense heat distribution and flame spread and a reduced cold spot. The two extra low simmer burners on the left is capable of precision simmering to as low as 100°F (375 BTU).
Spice Racks Below The Rangetop and Pantry
To kick the cooking several notches up, I do not need to scramble around. The good spicy stuff and condiments are just one cabinet below the rangetop, neatly arranged in rows for easy assess. The pull-out rack ensure that liquids such as cooking oil do not splash around as it has a smooth roll and soft-close feature. No loud slams.
The pantry is located directly across the aisle from the rangetop. I can just turn around from the cooking to retrieve items directly from the pantry in just one single turn. The pantry drawers are roll-out type that allow easy access to the food. There is no need to reach deep inside the pantry, making snacking a cinch, hehehe!
Refrigerator and Built-in Ovens
Just next to the pantry is the large LG Inverter Linear 2-door refrigerator. It too is situated in such a way as to facilitate quick access from the cooking area. The built-in Thermador Microwave/Oven combo is placed to the right of the refrigerator. The proximity of the microwave next to the refrigerator makes heating of meals, lunchboxes, and the occasional pizza very easy and convenient.
Our Kitchen Tour – Cabinets for Dishes
I dedicated the largest overhanging cabinet for the dishes that I use daily. This cabinet is at right angle to the dish washer for easy keeping after washing.
My long-time readers may remember that I have used Japanese dishes in some of my previous posts. These are safely kept in one cabinet dedicated just for them. Keeping similar type dishes together makes them easier to stack and store. It is also a feast for the eyes to simply open the cabinet and ADMIRE! 😉
New Addition – Tea Cabinet/Curio
In case that last cabinet was not enough, I added the tea curio after I had finished the main kitchen. So much more to display and the beaded glass to accentuate the teacup and teapot collection. I had wanted such a curio for the longest of times and I was most delighted to finally get this built. The lower half of the curio has ample drawers to hold even more teacups and teapots. There are enough tea ware here to fill my other blog Tea Tattler.
Tea Carousel
What is a teacup and teapot collection without tea itself? I keep all my different teas in a tea carousel located in one of the corner cabinets. Yes, there is “All The Tea in China” packed away in there!
Let’s Throw in the Kitchen Sink in Our Kitchen Tour!
You may wonder why I have not shown any pictures of the kitchen sink. That is because the sink has had a blog post all to itself that also featured the countertop. And there you have it – a quick tour of our Alabaster kitchen.

Nice shiny kitchen, love it! I notice you don’t have an exhaust above your stove. How do you ‘control’ the smoke when cooking? I switched to Avocado oil lately and have noticed lesser smoke but would love to hear your views.

I have a Zephyr ceiling mount range hood (please see the first photo) which I love. It has a powerful 600CFM internal blower which works quite well. This hood allows unobstructed views for recording my cooking videos.
