Since 1984, the month of July has been designated as the National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday in July is National Ice Cream Day. This year, National Ice Cream Day falls on July 15th. With the weather being so hot outside, I am all for Ice Cream Day. It has been a while since I had a root beer float and when I suggested fixing our own, both my boys were in total agreement.

Of late, my favorite ice cream flavor is coffee. Unfortunately, it is not a flavor that is easily available out there. Whenever, I do come across it, I can’t resist bringing a tub or two home with me especially when they are on sale. Soda is not a regular purchase for me but when the craving hits, a bottle of diet root beer shared by four should not make me feel too guilty.

I really like the combination of root beer and coffee ice cream. I think it has better flavor than the regular vanilla or chocolate ice cream. Do give it a try.

Still love the A&W root beer float. The A&W I used to go to as a kid in PJ is still around. Unfortunately, there is not one close to where I live now.

Root beer floats are the best!! I’ve had them with vanilla and chocolate (my favorite thus far), but never with coffee ice cream. I’m definitely going to have to try that. Thanks for the idea!

Hey Biren, this looks wonderful!!! I don’t need hot weather to enjoy this, but it would be all the more welcome right now – definitely not the coolest or most comfortable time of year ๐Ÿ˜› Btw – I could have sworn this post was not between your kueh kodok and Malaysia Part 2 posts the last time I visited?!?!

It is getting pretty muggy over here though thankfully still not as bad as in Singapore or Malaysia. I seldom take soda but would take a float especially at A&W any time of the year, even in winter.

This is a newer post than Malaysia Part 3. I published two post on the same day and “stickied” that post to the top. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ahhhhh…. A&W, such wonderful memories, and NO ONE knows floats like A&W. Miss those huge frosted mugs, coney dogs and curly fries ๐Ÿ™ Wish they would come back to Singapore…

I haven’t had an ice cream float in years. My mom used to treat us to root beer floats once in awhile. We knew we had been very good when she bought the root beer and ice cream. I would never have thought to use coffee ice cream, but I’ll bet its terrific!

Coffee ice cream has such terrific flavor! And you’re right: it’s become much less common over the years. I’ve never tried it in an ice cream float, but that’s a great idea – thanks!

You are most welcomed, Antoinette. It is a pity that coffee ice cream is a little harder to come by. I am going to try to make my own one of these days. ๐Ÿ™‚
