Cheese Fondue

Cheese Fondue

Cooking at the table around the fondue pot is fun for the family and friends. It makes social gatherings easy and simple and encourages people to spend time together over a meal. The casual atmosphere encourages the conversation to flow while we dip, eat, and drink.

The Ro-Ri household enjoys cooking at the table, be it a cheese fondue, a Chinese hotpot, or a Japanese nabe. It is cozy and comforting especially on cold winter evenings. Ro-Jiro (second son) aptly refers to fondue as “fun food” when he was much younger and used to request for “fun food” for his birthdays. Today, he still enjoys it just as much. 🙂

Cheese Fondue

I used a cheese fondue blend that I found at Super Target. It has a mix of Emmentaler and Gruyere cheeses and only requires addition of white wine. You can certainly create your own blend and use milk instead of white wine if you have little children eating with you.

I apologize for not visiting your sites as regularly as I would like to as we have a house guest. We have been doing a lot of outdoor activities as she wants to experience the snow like the natives. Our yard has a nice gentle slope perfect for sledding. After taking her skating and snow shoeing, it is time to introduce her to sledding. This is a picture of me at the top of the slope.

Awhee…down I go…

This is our guest at the bottom of the slope.

What a perfect backyard for sledding, and cheese fondure is the perfect meal! I really have to do this. So the fondue cheese blend from Target was good? I’ll have to look for it.

Omg I love sledding! We normally head to a golf course with huge slopes nearby and it’s SO much fun. We have a big board that can sit two people as well, and beware if you sled with my mom because that lady has absolutely NO steering abilities! Yet she always picks the steepest slopes! The cheese fondue looks amazing. Though I think I’d much prefer chocolate 😉

Going down those steep slopes can be exhilarating…whee!! I used to sit with my son on the sled but he is too big for me to sit with him now.

We love cheese fondue but I should make a chocolate fondue soon. 😉

It is so much more economical to have cheese fondue at home. This is the first time I used fingerling potatoes and I must say that it certainly did go very well with the cheese. 🙂

I haven’t made fondue in years but I still have the pot stashed in my cupboards somewhere.

I I finally had a chance to try cheese fondue at The Melting Pot a couple months ago and loved it. It’s so much cheaper and relaxing enjoying this at home though. Plus, by substituting with milk, my little ones can enjoy too. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hope your house guest is enjoying the snow. Way to make the most of it.

How convenient to buy a fondue blend for making fondue, no grating necessary! I also love that your son called if “Fun Food” when he was little! Maybe we should official change its name 🙂 sounds good to me!

Oh yeah! This is my kinda post LOL I love cheese and I LOVE cheese fondue so much, whenever I have had it, I’ve burnt my tongue as I couldn’t wait for the cheese to cool *tsk tsk tsk* So greedy! Pity it’s so hot here – not really the kind of weather for fondue. Perhaps I should make this while it’s still nice and cool?

Love the snow sledding photos 😀

How fun! We just got to go sledding in Charlotte for the second time this winter. That’s a lot for us this early in the season! The boys love it though and the neighborhood has a great hill.

Thanks for sharing your fondue. I LOVE fondue and am kind of a crazy person when it comes to it. You’ve officially got me craving a big bowl!

Oh, I haven’t had fondue in so, so long. I wish I had a fondue pot so I could make some right now. I love that packet that does all the work too. What an excellent idea.

Fantastic pictures of you guys sledding. I don’t blame you for getting outside with your guest and making the most of your time with her in the snow. Have fun!
