Orange Tomato Smoothie

Orange Tomato Smoothie

Weekends are too short! They just seem to fly by. I was out and about doing some fun things with the family even though the weather was not behaving as it should for this time of the year. We did have a little bit of spring-like weather at the end of March but it seems like winter is back in full force. The whole of last week was rainy and snowy and the forecast for this week is just as bleak. The grounds are currently covered with wet heavy snow…sigh! Spring, where are you? Please come soon.

So much for the weather! Anyway, I hope you had a lovely weekend and are fully energized for the work week ahead. Rain or shine, I thought I’ll start off the week with a smoothie. There are lots of navel oranges on sale at the stores right now. I had to buy some and I am glad I did as they are pretty sweet. I made this Orange Tomato Smoothie with one of the oranges I bought. I added some cherry tomatoes to give it a little more color. The end result reminded me of the vegetable juice V8 which I used to enjoy.

Orange Tomato Smoothie

For this particular smoothie, I used thick Greek yogurt to give it a nice creamy taste and texture. I did not add any sugar as I felt that the sweetness from the orange juice and cherry tomatoes were more than sufficient. The yogurt did somewhat neutralized the acidity, leaving it just slightly tart and zesty. It was pretty good and I will definitely make it again.

What’s more refreshing than a cold smoothie. Love the combination as orange and tomato are my favourite fruits.

Thanks Ann! I always try to combine a fruit and vegetable in my smoothies. Not exactly sure if tomato is considered a fruit or vegetable though.

What my kids called a “sunshine” smoothie whenever oranges are involved…. Like you, I love V8 juice, so this would be a lovely combination to have first thing in the morning!

I sometimes just throw in whatever I have in the fridge. The cherry tomatoes are very sweet and they have less and smaller seeds. Works out well in a smoothie. 🙂
