Quick and healthy Strawberry Banana Protein Shake with Sun Warrior protein powder. It is thick, creamy, delicious, and satisfying.
Here at Roti n Rice, our mission is to promote a balanced and enjoyable food culture. We all enjoy food but do not always get the necessary nutrients required for healthy living because of our busy lifestyles. A nutritious home cooked meal may sometimes be a luxury if we are constantly on the go, or when we are recovering from an injury, or even when we are starting a new workout program. This is where supplements, and in particular protein powder, play an important role.
Protein powder is relatively new to me. I have often wondered about those blender bottles and the shakes in it I see many drink at the gym. Fortunately, I did not have to wonder long as I was recently approached by Sunwarrior to do a review on some of their products. For me it was a great way to find out more about those shakes that even some of the ladies at my previous zumba class drank.
I was excited to receive one of those blender bottles with the blender ball in it. Together with the blender bottle was 9 packets of single serve gluten free, soy free, dairy free, and hypoallergenic protein powders, supergreens, liquid vitamin mineral, fulvic acid, and barley slow burning carb.
I was most interested in the protein powders which came in 2 different blends and flavors. In my first round, I tried one of each blend. The suggested use was to mix a packet of the protein powder with either water, almond milk, coconut milk, or your favorite beverage. I decided to mix the chocolate flavored Classic Protein with water in the blender bottle. The blender bottle worked really well and the shake came out smooth and creamy. I was pleasantly surprised that it was quite delicious and tasted like a chocolate milkshake. It was mildly sweet which was good enough for me with only 1% of sugar listed.
Encouraged, I decided to make a Mango Ginger Smoothie with the vanilla flavored Warrior Blend. The smoothie was very thick. As you can see in the picture below, the straw stood upright in the glass without leaning to the side. I did not like this as much as I found it to be chalky. The protein powder over powered the taste of the mango.
In round two, I decided to make two of the same Strawberry Banana Protein Shake using the two remaining packets of protein powder. This time, I started with the vanilla flavored Classic Protein. Fully expecting it to be chalky, I was once again pleasantly surprised. I made it in the morning and so it served as my breakfast. It was thick, creamy, fruity, and quite delicious. I was satisfied.
I made the other shake using the chocolate flavored Warrior Blend protein powder. Not exactly sure what to expect, I found the shake to be just slightly chalky this time. Definitely less chalky than the vanilla flavored Warrior Blend but it was discernible. Other than that the shake was quite enjoyable.
The Warrior Blend protein powders are made of raw organic pea, cranberry, and hemp seed protein while the Classic Protein powders are made of raw whole grain brown rice protein. The Warrior Blend has a higher percentage of daily value protein at 34% for the chocolate flavor and 38% for the vanilla flavor. The Classic Protein has a lower percentage of daily value protein at 32% for the chocolate flavor and 30% for the vanilla flavor. The daily value of iron is considerably lower but the daily value of calcium is higher.
All in all I’ve had a positive experience with these Sunwarrior protein powders and would recommend them if you are considering a protein powder supplement. You can use the store locator or purchased them on-line at Sunwarrior.
